A 19-year-old wins the Bulgarian Amateur Golf Championship – 2008
 
The young Bulgarian golfer Michael Kanev (19) who joined the men golf competitions only this year won the Bulgarian Amateur Golf Cup – 2008 at Pirin Golf and Country Club. This was the most prestigious and important golf event in Bulgaria in the calendar of the Bulgarian Golf Association this year. The intrigue was present to the last hole, but the young Bulgarian golfer remained calm and finished his game confidently.
"I was having a one-stroke lead from the first hole, which raised the pressure, but had the feeling that I can do it . I was determined to do it" – said Michael Kanev .
He was awarded the trophy by the Vicepresident of the Bulgarian Golf Association Georgi Chuklev and dipl. eng. Nikolay Kaloyanov – president and owner of the luxury golf club near the town of Razlog.
Second after the winner with 157 came Rumen Atanassov (165) and Stefan Kralchev (167) took the third place.
Juniors showed very improved play and the winner Emil Kaloyanov scored 179.
 
The award ceremony was attended by special guests, including representatives from the Municipality of Razlog and business people.
All participants in the marked the perfect conditions for golf – crystal clear skies, perfectly prepared greens and excellent organisation of the competition.
The Bulgarian Amateur Golf Championship was organised by the Bulgarian Golf Association on the largest and one of its kind alpine golf course site in Bulgaria. Pirin Golf and Country Club was built in 3 years and spreads now on 2,000,000 sq.m. Legendary golfer Ian Woosnam designed its first 18-hole golf course. A second 18-hole golf course inside the resort is under construction as well. More than 60 mln. leva (30 Mln. EUR) are invested so far , according to its owner dipl. eng. Nikolay Kaloyanov, CEO of Balkanstroy Jsc.
